Foundational 3-Day Vinyasa Yoga Intensive

This intensive is designed to demystify Vinyasa yoga, breaking down its core components to build a strong, intelligent, and sustainable practice. We'll explore the principles that create fluid movement, mindful breath, and energetic connection, empowering both your personal journey and your ability to share this practice with others.

For All Participants: All sessions are crafted to deepen your personal understanding of Vinyasa principles and asana.

For Teachers & Aspiring Teachers: The "Yoga lab" sessions provide dedicated time for applying concepts to teaching, refining your skills, and receiving personalized feedback on your methodology, sequencing, and teaching style. â€‹â€‹

Daily Schedule

​​Day 1: The Breath-Movement Connection
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM | Workshop: The Heart of Vinyasa: Tristana, Bandhas, Drishti & Surya Namaskara (Open to All)

Focus: We'll deconstruct the Tristana Method (breath, gaze, and energetic locks/bandhas), understanding how these three elements create the foundation for Vinyasa. We'll then apply this understanding to a detailed breakdown of Sun Salutations, exploring their proper alignment, transitions, and variations.

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM | Yoga Lab: Applied Flow & Observation

Focus: Building on the morning's workshop, this lab delves into the practical application of the Tristana Method within Vinyasa. We'll explore how breath dictates movement tempo, efficient transitions, and begin to analyze common patterns in Sun Salutations.

For Teachers: Practice cueing Sun Salutations with a focus on the breath and observing common misalignments.

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM | Workshop: Stable Grounding: Foundational Standing Postures in Flow (Open to All)

Focus: This session explores how standing postures are integrated into Vinyasa sequences. 

​

4:30 PM - 6:00 PM | Yoga Lab: Crafting Standing Sequences

Focus: We'll examine the principles of sequencing standing postures effectively within a Vinyasa context. This includes understanding intelligent progressions and counterposes. 

For Teachers: Develop concise verbal cues for standing sequences and explore effective hands-on assists.

Day 2: Balance, Integration & Dynamic Sequencing
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM | Workshop: Finding Equilibrium: Balancing Postures & Transitions (Open to All)

Focus: Explore the art of balancing postures within the Vinyasa flow. We'll break down fundamental balance postures focusing on core engagement, drishti, and how to smoothly transition into and out of them.

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM | Yoga Lab: Guiding and Supporting Balance

Focus: This lab will provide tools for understanding and navigating common challenges in balancing postures. We'll look at modifications and progressions to make balances accessible.

For Teachers: Practice offering insightful verbal cues and safe physical supports for students in balancing poses.

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM | Workshop: The Vinyasa Journey: Integrated Flow Practice (Open to All)

Focus: This is a comprehensive Vinyasa practice that weaves together everything covered so far. Experience the seamless integration of Sun Salutations, foundational standing poses, and balancing postures.

4:30 PM - 6:00 PM | Yoga Lab: Anatomy of a Vinyasa Class & Teaching Back

Focus: Deconstruct the typical arc of a Vinyasa class, from warm-up to cool-down. Participants will have the opportunity to sequence and teach back a short segment (e.g., Sun Salutations into a standing sequence) integrating the principles learned.

For Teachers: Receive personalized feedback on sequencing, cueing, pacing, and overall teaching presence.

Day 3: Expansion & Restoration
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM | Workshop: Backbending Workshop (Open to All)

Focus: Approach backbending postures with intelligence and safety. This workshop will guide you through preparatory poses, proper alignment, and techniques to create space and freedom in your spine.

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM | Yoga Lab: Breaking Down Backbending

Focus: Focus on the art of approaching backbends safely and effectively. Learn how to guide yourself and others through these expansive poses, offering appropriate progressions and modifications.

For Teachers: Practice leading segments that prepare for and guide students through backbends, with a focus on safety cues and modifications.

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM | Workshop: Deep Rest: Restorative Practice (Open to All)

Focus: Conclude your immersion with a deeply nourishing restorative yoga practice. Learn how to use props to support your body, promoting relaxation, stress reduction, and profound peace.

​

4:30 PM - 6:00 PM | Yoga Lab: The Art of Restoration & Class Closure

Focus: Explore the principles of sequencing and creating restorative yoga experiences. Learn how to create a calming atmosphere, effectively use props, and offer verbal guidance for deep relaxation. This session will conclude with final reflections and Q&A.

Join us for a casual Kula Gathering the evening before the immersion. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with participants, myself and our cute little puppy!
